Pipe Bursting – San Diego

When sewer drains are damaged beyond repair, customers are faced with the possibility of a traditional replacement. While sewer pipe replacement makes sense in some situations, there are times when excavation is less than ideal. Pipelining is one form of trenchless repair, but not always the right solution.

What is Pipe Bursting?

When the sewer line must be replaced, pipe bursting offers a trenchless and cost effective solution. Instead of digging a trench, removing the old and damaged line, and installing a new high quality ABS sewer pipe, pipe bursting replaces the sewer pipe without the trench.

While it is called a trenchless solution, there is minor digging involved. American Ally Drains and Plumbing will dig two small access pits at either end of the sewer line to allow our pipe bursting equipment to work.

At the entry point, we feed a heavy steel cable affixed with a cone shaped bursting head into the sewer line. Attached to the end is a pneumatic jack that will break up the old pipe.

As the steel cable and bursting head go through the sewer drain, they completely break up the old and damaged line while opening up space to house the new pipe.

With pipe bursting, the new sewer line is a durable and flexible High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipe. HDPE is seamless, making it ideal to guard against future root intrusion, and flexible enough to feed into the ground.

Both pipe bursting and pipelining are ideal options when there are heavily landscaped yards or concrete, but pipelining is not a viable solution if the existing sewer drain is broken beyond repair, or collapsed. Pipe bursting offers the same fast and cost effective solution, plus an incredibly durable pipe that will last for years.
